Understanding and Supporting Every Child- An Awareness Session for Teachers

Our school organised a practical awareness session for teachers on 26 September 2026 on the theme Understanding and Supporting Every Child. The session was conducted by Dr Shilpa Siwach (SI Certified), Paediatric Physiotherapist.

The session focused on helping teachers notice, understand and support children with diverse learning, behavioural, communication, sensory and developmental needs. It highlighted that teachers need not diagnose a child, but should observe patterns, understand possible difficulties and provide appropriate classroom support.

Through practical examples and interactive activities, teachers explored how “behaviour is communication” and learned to look beyond labels such as lazy, stubborn, or attention-seeking. Practical strategies such as simple instructions, visual support, processing time, movement breaks and positive reinforcement were discussed.

The session also emphasised empathetic communication with parents and collaboration with professionals. The key framework shared was:

NOTICE → UNDERSTAND → SUPPORT → COMMUNICATE → REFER

The insightful session reinforced the school's commitment to fostering an inclusive, compassionate and supportive learning environment where every child is understood, valued and encouraged to thrive.
